How to Choose the Right ro membrane housing: A Simple Guide for Homeowners

Alright, let’s talk about this “RO membrane housing” thing. I needed to do some work on my water filtration setup, so I figured I’d share my process. It wasn’t too complicated, but there are a few things to keep in mind.

First off, I had to pick the right housing. Now, I’m not using this for some big industrial thing, just my home setup. But even then, there are a few options. You gotta think about the size, the material, and where the water’s coming in and going out. Standard size is kind of 12-inch housing with 1/8″ female threaded connections, 1.5-1.8 inches in diameter and 10-12 inches in length is OK for me.

So, I checked the water pressure. It is a regular household, about 75 gallons of water per day per person. Too low, and the whole thing’s not gonna work right. Too high, and you could end up with a mess. My pressure was in the normal range, so I didn’t have to mess with that.

Then I looked at the material for the housing. This was pretty straightforward for me, just decided on a stainless steel one, that is good enough and can prevent the leakage problem. Seemed like the best option for home use, and it’s what a lot of people recommend.

Next, I actually had to install the thing. This part was actually pretty easy. The housing I got had clear markings for where the water goes in and out, so I just connected the pipes to the right spots. You might need to use some thread tape to make sure there are no leaks, but I got lucky and didn’t need any.

Once it was all hooked up, I turned on the water and checked for leaks. I let it run for a few minutes, just to make sure everything was working like it should. No drips, no weird noises, so I figured I was good to go.

Honestly, the whole process was easier than I thought it would be. The hardest part was just making sure I got the right housing in the first place. Once I had that, it was just a matter of connecting a few pipes. If I can do it, anyone can, right?
