Pentair Big Blue Filter Replacement Guide: How to Choose the Right One For Your Home!

Okay, guys, let’s talk about the Pentair Big Blue filter. I’ve been meaning to replace mine for a while now, and I finally got around to it. So, I figured I’d share my experience and maybe help some of you out.

First, I turned off the main water supply. You don’t want any surprises while you’re working on this thing. This is super important. Next, I found my filter housing wrench. It is usually located near the filter housing. I used this special tool to loosen the big blue housing. It’s pretty big, so you need a good grip.

Once I got the housing off, I took out the old, gunked-up filter. It was nasty, let me tell you! I then made sure to quickly put the old filter in a bag to prevent any mess. Then, I grabbed the new filter cartridge. I checked the model number to make sure it was the right one. Pentair has a bunch of different ones, so you gotta pay attention.

After I unwrapped the new filter, I carefully placed it into the housing. It is important to make sure it is seated correctly so it can filter properly. With the new filter in, I carefully screwed the housing back on, making sure it wasn’t too tight. Then, I slowly turned the water back on. I listened for any leaks and checked the housing to make sure everything was sealed properly.

Finally, I let the water run for a few minutes to flush out any air or loose particles. And that’s it! It was actually easier than I thought it would be.

  • Turn off the water supply.
  • Find the filter housing wrench.
  • Loosen the housing with the wrench.
  • Remove the old filter.
  • Get the new filter cartridge.
  • Check the model number.
  • Place the new filter in the housing.
  • Screw the housing back on.
  • Turn the water back on.
  • Check for leaks.
  • Run the water for a few minutes.

Why Bother with the Big Blue?

So, why did I even bother with this Big Blue thing? Well, it’s a heavy-duty water filter that can handle a lot of water flow. I live in an area with, shall we say, “questionable” water quality. This filter helps remove all sorts of junk like sediment, chlorine, and other stuff I don’t even want to think about. It makes a big difference in the taste and smell of the water.

Tips and Tricks

One thing I learned is that these filters supposedly last a while, but it really depends on your water quality. I usually change mine every few months just to be safe. Also, keep an eye on your water pressure. If it starts to drop, it might be time for a new filter.

And that is my whole story about replacing my Pentair Big Blue filter. Hope this helps someone out there. If you’ve got any questions, just ask!
