Having trouble with pentair big blue filter change? Heres some useful tips.

Okay, so today I’m gonna switch out the filter in my Pentair Big Blue thing. I’ve got the whole house hooked up to this, and I guess it’s about time to change it. They say you should do it every ten years or something? Mine’s been in there for a while, so let’s get to it.

First things first, I gotta shut off the water. I just turned the main valve off – easy peasy. Then, I went and opened up the faucet closest to the filter housing. I guess this helps release some pressure or something. Oh, and some folks online said something about pressing a button on the housing, but I didn’t see any on mine. No big deal.

Next, I got my wrench out. It’s one of those big ones made just for these housings, I think. I placed it around the base of the housing and started turning. It was pretty tight, but I managed to loosen it up. I kept unscrewing it until the whole thing came off. Man, that water inside looked nasty!

I pulled out the old filter. It was all gunky and discolored – definitely time for a change! I tossed that thing in the trash. Then I took the new filter, which I already had ready, and popped it in. It’s one of those coconut carbon ones, which is supposed to be good for drinking water and getting rid of bad smells. Hope that’s true!

With the new filter in place, I screwed the housing back on. I tightened it as much as I could with the wrench, making sure it was nice and snug. No leaks, please!

Finally, I turned the water back on. I let it run for a few minutes, just to flush out any air or loose stuff. And that was it! Water’s flowing clear again, and hopefully, it’s cleaner now too.

All in all, it wasn’t too bad. Just a bit of elbow grease and some basic tools. If I can do it, anyone can! Now, let’s see if this new filter makes a difference in the water quality. Fingers crossed!

• Shut off water supply.
• Release pressure.
• Unscrew housing.
• Remove old filter.
• Insert new filter.
• Screw housing back on.
• Turn water back on.

I guess I’ll check it again in another 5 years or so for some cleaning, like some Pentair website said. They mentioned something about ordering replacement stuff, but I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.

And, just for the record, I think this filter flows from the outside to the inside. At least, that’s what I gathered from checking my setup.
