Big Blue Carbon Water Filter: Is It Worth the Money? (Read This Before You Buy!)

Alright, so I recently got into this whole home water filtration thing. I decided to go with a big blue carbon water filter. Let me tell you, it’s been a journey, a real do-it-yourself adventure.

First off, I started by doing some reading online. I mean, who doesn’t these days? I stumbled upon a bunch of articles talking about how carbon filters can make your water taste better and get rid of some nasty stuff. That sounded pretty good to me, especially since our tap water has always had a weird smell.

  • I found out that these filters have activated carbon inside, and it’s like a magnet for impurities.
  • It’s supposed to catch all sorts of things, like chemicals and stuff that makes the water smell and taste funny.

Then I went ahead and ordered the filter online. There are a bunch of different types, but I opted for the “big blue” one because it seemed like it could handle a lot of water. Plus, I saw this ETF called TBLU, which is apparently doing well in the water equities group, so I figured the water industry must be booming, right? And I read somewhere that NYC has been raising water rates a lot lately, so I figured I might save some money in the long run.

When the filter arrived, it was a bit bigger than I expected. Honestly, it looked a bit intimidating. I’m not the handiest guy, but I was determined to figure this out myself. I grabbed my tools, watched a few videos, and just dived in.

The installation process was, well, let’s just say it was a learning experience. I had to turn off the main water supply, cut some pipes, and connect everything. There were a few moments where I wasn’t sure if I was doing it right, but I kept at it.

Finally, after a couple of hours of sweating and maybe a few curse words, I managed to get the filter installed. I slowly turned the water back on, held my breath, and… no leaks! I couldn’t believe it. I actually did it.

The Result

And you know what? The water tastes noticeably better. That weird smell is gone. It’s actually pretty amazing. Plus, knowing that we’re drinking cleaner water is a good feeling. I saw some info about how these filters can remove things like pollutants from landfills and stuff. Who knew?

I know this might seem like a small thing, but it has been a change for the house over the last few weeks since I installed it, I feel good to have solved this issue. It also has saved money in the long run from buying bottled water, so it’s a win-win in the long run. It was definitely worth the effort. If you’re thinking about getting a water filter, I say go for it. Just be prepared for a bit of a project if you decide to install it yourself!
