Big Blue Sediment Filter 4.5 x 20: Is It the Right Choice for Your Water Filtration Needs?

Today, I gonna talk about my experience with setting up a big blue sediment filter, the 4.5 x 20 inch one. I needed a solution to make sure my whole house has clean water, and after some digging around, I decided to go with this bad boy.

Getting Started

First off, I had to pick the right spot for this thing. It needed to go after the main water line coming into the house but before the water heater. Found a good spot in my basement that had enough space and was easy to get to for maintenance.

Installation Process

Gathering Supplies: I made a quick trip to the hardware store and grabbed some basic stuff: a mounting bracket, some pipe fittings, Teflon tape, and a couple of shut-off valves. Nothing too fancy.

  • Turn Off the Water: This was a no-brainer. I turned off the main water supply to the house to avoid a potential mess.
  • Mount the Filter Housing: I used the mounting bracket to secure the filter housing to the wall. Made sure it was level and sturdy.
  • Cut the Pipe: Okay, this was the tricky part. I measured twice and cut once. I cut the main water line where the filter was going to sit.
  • Install the Fittings: I wrapped the threads of the pipe fittings with Teflon tape to prevent leaks. Then, I connected the shut-off valves to both ends of the cut pipe. This allows me to isolate the filter for future maintenance.
  • Connect the Filter Housing: I attached the filter housing to the fittings, making sure everything was tight and secure. Double-checked for any potential leaks.
  • Flush the System: With everything connected, I slowly turned the water back on. I let the water run for a few minutes to flush out any air or debris in the filter.

The Result

After getting it all set up, I could immediately notice the difference. The water just seemed cleaner, and there was no more sediment messing up my appliances. It was a bit of work, but totally worth it in the end.

So, that’s my little adventure with installing a big blue sediment filter. If you’re thinking about doing something similar, just remember to take your time, double-check your work, and don’t be afraid to get your hands a little dirty. It’s a pretty rewarding DIY project!
