Install a Big Blue Water Filter 10 Inch: Easy Steps to Cleaner Water at Home!

Okay, so I finally got around to setting up that big blue water filter, the 10-inch one. I’ve been meaning to do it for ages, you know, cleaner water and all that jazz. First off, I had to figure out where the heck to put this thing.

I surveyed my basement, looking for a good spot. It needed to be somewhere I could easily reach for when it came time to change the filter and all that, and also somewhere near the main water line, obviously. After some looking around, I found a decent spot on the wall, right after the main shut-off valve. Good enough, I thought.

Mounting the Filter

  • I got the bracket that came with the filter and held it up on the wall where I wanted the filter to sit. I made sure it was level – didn’t want any wonky water action.
  • Then, I grabbed my drill and some screws. I marked where the screws needed to go, using the bracket as a template, and then drilled some pilot holes. Nothing too major, just enough to get the screws in easier.
  • Next, I screwed the bracket onto the wall. It felt pretty secure, which was a relief.

Connecting the Filter

This was the trickier part. I turned off the main water supply. Didn’t want to flood the basement. Then, I had to cut into the main water line. I used a pipe cutter for this, and it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. Just had to make sure to measure twice and cut once, as they say.

After cutting the pipe, I connected the filter housing to the pipes. I used some plumbing tape on the threads to make sure there were no leaks. Then I tightened everything up with a wrench. It took some muscle, but I got it done.

Turning it all on

With everything connected, I slowly turned the water back on, keeping an eye out for any leaks. Thankfully, there were none. I let the water run through the filter for a few minutes to flush out any debris or anything that might have gotten in there during the process.

And that was it! Now I have a big blue water filter all set up. The water tastes a bit better, and I feel good knowing that I did it myself. It wasn’t a walk in the park, but it wasn’t rocket science either. I just took it step by step and it turned out pretty okay.
