Need a Big Blue Water Filter Replacement Cartridge? Heres How to Choose the Best One

Okay, here is my sharing about replacing the big blue water filter cartridge:

So, I’ve been using this big blue water filter for a while now, and it’s been pretty good. But, like all filters, the cartridge needs to be changed out from time to time. I noticed the water flow getting a bit slow, and the water started tasting a little off, so I figured it was time for a new one.

First, I turned off the water supply to the filter housing. This is important, otherwise, you’ll get a face full of water when you open it up. Then, I grabbed a wrench and unscrewed the housing. It was a bit tight, so I had to give it some muscle.

Once the housing was off, I saw the old cartridge. It looked pretty grimy, which confirmed I made the right call to change it. I pulled it out and tossed it in the trash.

Next, I grabbed the new cartridge. I made sure it was the right size and type for my filter. I found that this filter cartridge is designed to filter out impurities, reduce chlorine, taste, odor, sand, rust, mercury, and suspended particles from the water. It has a capacity of 2.3L, which is great. It’s made of BPA-free plastic too, which is a relief.

  • Unscrewed the housing
  • Removed the old cartridge
  • Inserted the new cartridge
  • Screwed the housing back on
  • Turned the water supply back on

I carefully put the new cartridge into the housing, making sure it was seated properly. Then, I screwed the housing back onto the filter head. I tightened it up with the wrench, but not too much. You don’t want to crack the housing.

Finally, I turned the water supply back on. I let the water run for a few minutes to flush out any air or loose carbon from the new cartridge. After that, the water was flowing great, and it tasted clean and fresh.

Result

Changing the cartridge was a pretty simple job, and it only took about 15 minutes. Now I’ve got clean, great-tasting water again, and I don’t have to worry about any nasty stuff getting through. If you’ve got one of these big blue filters, don’t be scared to change the cartridge yourself. It’s easy, and it’ll save you some money compared to calling a plumber.
