Big Blue Water Filter Replacement O Ring: Stop Leaks Fast with This Easy Solution

So, the other day I noticed a small leak coming from my big blue water filter. Not good! After some investigation, I figured it was probably the O-ring that was causing the problem. I’ve had this filter for a while now, and it was about time to replace it anyway.

First, I gathered my supplies. I already had a pack of replacement O-rings that I bought a while back, they were something like 151122 or OR-100 O-rings, apparently, they fit a bunch of different brands like Pentair, Culligan, and Ametek, just to name a few. My filter is a Pentek 20-inch, so these should work.

I turned off the water supply to the filter and depressurized the system. This part is important, folks, you don’t want water spraying everywhere. There is a button for pressure release, quite convenient!

Next, I unscrewed the filter housing. It was a bit tight, but I managed to get it off. Once it was open, I could see the old O-ring. It looked pretty worn out, definitely the culprit. I carefully removed the old O-ring and gave the housing a quick clean, this filter housing sump model is 153070. It is 4.5 inches wide and 20 inches long. You know, just to get rid of any gunk that might have built up.

Then came the fun part – putting in the new O-ring. I made sure it was seated properly in the groove, nice and snug. This creates that water-tight seal we need between the cap and the housing.

After that, I screwed the housing back on, making sure it was tight but not too tight. I turned the water supply back on and checked for leaks. And guess what? No leaks! Success! The O-ring did the trick, and I didn’t have to buy a whole new filter, which would’ve cost me over 700 bucks.

I think I saw these O-rings on some website, maybe it was eBay or some online store? I got a pack of five, which is great because I can replace them every few months and keep my filter running smoothly.
