Big Blue Filter Housing Parts: Where to Find Them Easily

Okay, so the other day, I was messing around with my water filter at home, you know, the big blue one. I figured it was time to give it a good once-over and see what makes it tick. I’m talking about that big blue filter housing thingy, the one that’s supposed to keep all the gunk out of our water.

First, I turned off the water supply, wouldn’t want to flood the place. Then, I grabbed my wrench and started unscrewing the housing. It’s pretty hefty, I tell ya. Once I got it loose, I carefully pulled the whole thing apart. It wasn’t too difficult to detach it from the mounting bracket with a few more turns of the wrench.

  • The Cap: On top, there’s this cap part. It’s got “IN” and “OUT” markings on it, which I guess is pretty important for making sure the water flows the right way.
  • The Housing Body: This is the main part, the big blue cylinder where the filter sits. It’s made of some heavy-duty plastic, feels pretty solid. It will house the sediment filter which is really important part, too.
  • The Filter: Inside, there’s the filter itself. Mine was a 20×4.5 size, but there were many sizes available to choose from. This one was looking pretty dirty, which means it’s been doing its job, I suppose.
  • The O-Ring: There’s also a big rubber ring in there, which I assume is to keep the whole thing watertight.

So I took everything out, gave it a good rinse. The filter was definitely ready to be replaced, so I chucked it and got a new one ready. Putting it all back together was just the reverse of taking it apart. Screwed the housing back on, making sure the O-ring was in place. It went smoothly, and then turned the water back on, and checked for leaks. There was nothing, which was a relief!

Final Thoughts

It’s actually pretty simple when you look at it. Just a few main parts working together. It’s good to know how these things work, you know? Makes you appreciate the clean water a bit more. Plus, it’s kinda satisfying to take something apart and put it back together. I will probably change the filter again in a few months. Anyway, that’s my little adventure with the big blue filter housing. Thought I’d share in case anyone else is curious about what’s inside theirs!
