Pentek 10 Big Blue Filter Housing vs. Other Brands: Which One Is Better for You?

Okay, so, I wanted to do some upgrades to my water filtration setup at home. You know, the usual, trying to get the best water quality possible. After looking into it, I decided to go with the Pentek 10 Big Blue Filter Housing. I’d heard good things, and it seemed like it could handle what I needed.

First, I got the filter housing and some cartridges. I went with the Pentek 150237 model, the one with the pressure relief button. Seemed handy. And for cartridges, I picked up the Pentek DGD-5005-20 Big Blue Water Filter, the 20-inch ones. I also grabbed a Pentek NCP-20BB Big Blue Carbon Sediment filter, because why not have better tasting water, right?

I started by turning off the main water supply to the house – didn’t want any surprises there. Then, I found a good spot to install the housing. It needed to be somewhere accessible, but also out of the way. Once I found the right place, I marked where the mounting bracket would go. I made sure it was level, cause who wants a crooked filter housing?

Next, I drilled the holes for the bracket and secured it to the wall. Pretty straightforward. Then I took the filter housing and screwed it into the bracket. It felt pretty solid, which is what you want.

• Drilled some holes and mounted the bracket. Easy peasy.
• Screwed the housing onto the bracket. It’s heavy, but manageable.

After that, I got to work on the plumbing. I connected the inlet and outlet pipes to the housing. I used some Teflon tape on the threads to make sure there were no leaks. This part was a bit tricky, but I managed to get everything connected tightly.

With the plumbing done, I inserted the filter cartridges into the housing. I made sure they were seated properly, then screwed the housing cap back on. Tightened it up, but not too much, just to avoid any damage.

Finally, I slowly turned the water supply back on, checking for any leaks as I went. I held down the pressure relief button to let the air out. To my relief, everything looked good. No leaks, no issues.

Result

Since installing the Pentek 10 Big Blue Filter Housing, I’ve noticed a real difference in my water quality. It’s clearer, tastes better, and I feel better knowing I’m drinking cleaner water. It wasn’t the easiest project, but it was definitely worth the effort. Plus, I heard that the Pentek Big Blue commercial filter housing is a good substitute for those expensive stainless steel ones. Now I don’t have to worry about that!
