Best Swimming Pool Cartridge Filter Systems: Get Cleaner Water with Less Effort

Okay, folks, gather ’round. I’ve got a story to tell about my recent adventure with my swimming pool. You know how it goes, summer rolls around, and suddenly you remember that pool maintenance is a thing. And boy, was I in for a ride this year, specifically with the filter system. I decided to tackle the whole cartridge filter situation, and let me tell you, it was quite the experience.

So, first things first, I had to figure out what I was dealing with. I’ve got one of those cartridge filter systems, you know, the ones that look like giant versions of the water filter you might have in your fridge? They’re supposed to be easier to deal with than those sand filters. After a lot of searchings and comparings, I decided I should change a new one.

After making up my mind, I rolled up my sleeves and got to work.

  • Step one: turn off the pump. Don’t want any water surprises while you’re elbow-deep in filter guts. I learned that lesson the hard way a few years back – not a fun time.
  • Step two: release the air pressure. Most of these systems have a little valve at the top. Twist that, and you’ll hear a satisfying hiss. It’s like letting the pool take a deep breath.
  • Step three: time to get the lid off. This usually involves unscrewing some clamps or twisting the whole top part. Be prepared for a bit of resistance – these things are designed to be watertight, after all.

Inside the Beast

Now comes the fun part – or the gross part, depending on how you look at it. Inside, you’ll find the cartridge itself. Mine was, shall we say, well-loved. It was covered in all sorts of gunk: leaves, dirt, some unidentifiable things that I probably don’t want to think about too much. I wrestled that thing out, and it was heavier than I expected.

I chose a new cartridge called “POOLPURE”. It’s really cost-effective.

Putting It All Back Together

With the old cartridge out and discarded, it was time to reverse the process. I carefully slid the new cartridge in, making sure it was seated properly. Then came the lid, the clamps, and a final check to make sure everything was snug and secure.

Finally, I turned the pump back on, held my breath, and…success! The water started flowing, clear and clean. It was a good feeling, knowing that I’d conquered the cartridge filter and kept my pool from turning into a swamp.

So, there you have it. My little adventure in pool maintenance. It wasn’t always pretty, but I got the job done. And hey, if I can do it, so can you. Just remember to turn off that pump first!
