Ion Water Treatment: Simple Ways to Purify Your Water
So, the other day I was looking at my water bill, and I thought, “There’s gotta be a better way to deal with this hard water.” I’d been reading a bit about ion exchange water treatment, and it seemed like something I could maybe tackle myself. So, I decided to give it a shot.
Getting Started
First, I did some more digging online. I needed to figure out exactly what kind of Ion Water Treatment system I needed. Turns out, there are different resins for different stuff in the water. I checked my water report and saw it was mostly calcium and magnesium causing the hardness, so I looked for a resin specifically for that.
I found a couple of suppliers online, and I ordered a small tank and the right kind of resin beads. I also picked up some basic plumbing supplies – some pipes, connectors, and a couple of valves. I’m no plumber, but I figured I could handle some basic connections.
The Build
When everything arrived, I laid it all out in my garage. The tank was smaller than I expected, which was good because I didn’t have a ton of space. I followed the instructions that came with the resin and carefully filled the tank, making sure not to overfill it.
Then came the plumbing. I cut the pipes to the right lengths and connected them to the tank using the connectors. I made sure everything was tight and secure, using some Teflon tape to prevent leaks. I added the valves so I could control the water flow and bypass the Ion Water Treatment system if needed.
Testing and Tweaking
Once I had everything hooked up, I slowly turned on the water. I watched carefully for any leaks, and thankfully, there weren’t any! I let the water run through the Ion Water Treatment system for a while, as the instructions suggested, to flush out any loose resin.
Then came the moment of truth. I took a sample of the treated water and used a testing kit I bought to check the hardness. At first try it looks good. My wife complained before about the water, she said “it’s feel better now”.
I’m still keeping an eye on things and checking the water quality regularly. But overall, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It wasn’t a super complicated project, and it seems to be making a difference in the water hardness. Plus, I saved a bunch of money doing it myself instead of hiring a professional!
