Is Reverse Osmosis Better Than Filtered Water?Okay, so I’ve been getting a lot of questions about water lately. Specifically, what’s the deal with reverse osmosis versus just regular filtered water? I decided to dive in and figure it out myself, so here’s my little experiment.

The Setup

First, I grabbed two glasses. One I filled with tap water straight from my kitchen sink. I live in the city, so, you know, it’s…city water. The second glass I filled with water from a standard Brita pitcher – that’s my “filtered water” example.

Then, the fancy stuff. I borrowed a friend’s under-sink reverse osmosis (RO) system. It’s one of those deals with multiple filters and a separate little faucet. I filled a third glass with water from that RO tap.

The Taste Test

This is where things got interesting. I started with the plain tap water. Honestly, it tasted…okay. Kinda chlorine-y, and definitely had that “hard water” feel. Not terrible, but not great.

Next, I tried the Brita-filtered water. Big improvement! The chlorine taste was mostly gone, and it felt a bit smoother. Definitely better than straight tap.

Finally, the RO water. Whoa. It tasted…really clean. Like, almost nothing at all. It was super smooth, and I could definitely tell a difference from the other two. It was the cleanest-tasting, no doubt.

The Visual Check

I held all three glasses up to the light. The tap water had a tiny bit of cloudiness. The Brita water was clearer. The RO water was crystal clear, like looking through glass.

My Takeaway

Tap water: It’s fine in a pinch, but I wouldn’t want to drink it all the time.
Filtered water (Brita): A good everyday option. Makes a noticeable difference in taste and clarity.
Reverse osmosis water: The winner for pure taste and clarity. If you’re really serious about your water, this is the way to go.

So, there you have it. My completely unscientific, but totally practical, water test. For me, I’m sticking with my Brita for now, just ’cause it’s easy. But that RO water was seriously tempting!
