whole home water filtration system cost
whole home water filtration system cost,Okay, so we started thinking about getting cleaner water in the whole house, not just for drinking, right? We began to look into this whole house water filtration thing. At first, I was like, “Is this even necessary?” But the more we read about the gunk that can be in our water, even if it’s “safe” to drink, the more we were convinced.
The first step was figuring out what we even needed. Did we have a ton of sediment? Was our water super hard? We got one of those DIY test kits from the hardware store, the kind you use in pools. My wife tested it and she said that, it wasn’t anything too crazy. It was mostly about improving the taste and getting rid of some chlorine and maybe some other minor stuff. That was good news, it meant we probably didn’t need the most heavy-duty, expensive system.
Finding options and getting quotes(whole home water filtration system cost)
We went to some home improvement stores and chatted with the people there. We also got online and looked at some websites selling these systems. Honestly, it was overwhelming. There were so many different types! Carbon filters, reverse osmosis, UV purifiers…it was a lot to take in.
So what i did was make some calls, I ended up talking to a few local plumbers who installed these things. I found out they will usually give you a free estimate if you ask, so that’s what i did, no commitment, right?
We had three different companies come out and take a look at our plumbing and tell us what they recommended. One guy tried to sell us this super fancy system with all the bells and whistles, almost like a $4,000. We were like, “Whoa, slow down there, buddy.”
- The first quote: around $3,800 (too much!!)
- The second quote: roughly $2,500 (getting better)
- The third quote: around $1,900 (we liked this one!)
The final installation process
We picked the company that gave us the $1,900 quote. They seemed honest, not pushy, and they explained everything really well. They recommended a carbon-based system that would take care of our specific needs, without going overboard.
The installation itself took most of a day. The plumber showed up on time (which is always a plus!). They shut off the main water line. Then they cut into the pipe and put in the filtration system. It was actually pretty straightforward, watching him doing it. He made sure everything was sealed up tight, no leaks, and then he turned the water back on.
We let the water run for a bit, like he told us to, to flush out the system. And that was pretty much it! We’ve had it for a few months now, and the water definitely tastes better. We even did another one of those little test strips, and it showed that a lot of the stuff we were concerned about was gone. So far, so good! It feels good knowing we’ve got cleaner water throughout the house, and we didn’t have to totally break the bank to get it.
