I narrowed it down to a few options:

• Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems: Seemed like the most effective, but also the most expensive and complicated to install.
• Gravity-fed filters: These looked promising – big ceramic filters that sit on your countertop.

I decided to rule out the RO system for now. Just seemed like overkill for my little apartment. Plus, I didn’t want to mess with plumbing under the sink.

Testing and Trying

Next, I ordered a gravity-fed filter that used both ceramic and activated alumina filters. It was a bit of an investment, around a hundred dollars, but I figured it was worth it for peace of mind. Setting it up was pretty straightforward – just followed the instructions, and screwed everything together.

Once I had it running, I did a little taste test. Honestly, I couldn’t really tell the difference between the filtered water and my tap water. But the important thing was knowing that the fluoride (and other stuff) was getting filtered out.

I also picked up some fluoride testing strips online. These were cheap, like ten bucks for a pack. After running a few gallons of water through the filter, I dipped a strip in. And… it showed a significant reduction in fluoride levels! Not zero, but definitely way lower than before.
