Alright, folks, gather ’round, let me tell you about my little adventure with a 75 GPD RO membrane. So, I got this new RO system a while back, you know, for my aquarium. The one I had before just wasn’t cutting it, always struggling to keep up with my water change schedule.
Decided to go with a 75 GPD membrane ’cause I heard it’s the sweet spot – good balance between water production and quality. Installation Time

Reconnected everything, double-checked for leaks, and turned the water back on.
The Test
- Fired up the system and let it run for a while to flush out any manufacturing residues. Initially, I noticed the water production was a bit slower than my old high GPD membrane, but that’s expected.
- After a few hours, I tested the water. I was curious whether what I read online was true. Guess what? It’s true. The TDS reading was significantly lower. Nice! That means less strain on the DI resin and, hopefully, cleaner water for my finned buddies.
- I also observed that the waste water was less compared to what I had before, which is good.
It’s been a few weeks now, and I gotta say, I’m pretty happy with the 75 GPD membrane. It’s doing a solid job, and the water quality is noticeably better. The DI resin is lasting longer too, which is a big plus. The slower water production isn’t a big deal for me. But maybe a 100 GPD is not a bad idea, I thought, but from what I researched online, it is not an RO membrane. I will just stick with this 75 GPD membrane. Also, I found that the best RO membrane is by far the Dow Filmtec SW30-2540 Membrane, according to some expert. I might try it next time. If you’re in the market for a new RO membrane, I’d say give the 75 GPD a shot. It might just be what you’re looking for!
