Best single head dosing pump: How to find it?

Today, I wanna talk about setting up a single head dosing pump. I’ve been messing around with my aquarium setup and wanted to automate the dosing of this “all for reef” stuff.

First off, I started looking around to see what my options were. I saw a bunch of different pumps out there, like the Ecotech Versa and some from BRS. They all looked pretty decent, but I wasn’t really sure which one to pick.

I did some more digging and came across this Milwaukee Instruments MP810 pump. It seemed like it could do the job, with a flow rate of 25 ml per minute. Sounded good enough for me, so I decided to give it a shot.

When the pump arrived, I got it all set up. Hooked it up to my reef tank, got the tubing connected, the whole nine yards. It wasn’t too difficult, just had to follow the instructions that came with it.

Next, I started playing around with the settings, trying to figure out the right dosing schedule. I had to do a bit of trial and error, but eventually, I got it dialed in. Now, the pump is dosing the “all for reef” solution automatically, which is pretty sweet.

  • Step 1: Research available dosing pumps.
  • Step 2: Choose a pump (I went with the Milwaukee Instruments MP810).
  • Step 3: Unpack and set up the pump.
  • Step 4: Connect the tubing and get it ready for dosing.
  • Step 5: Figure out the right dosing schedule.
  • Step 6: Test it out and make adjustments as needed.

Here’s my experience

So far, it’s been working pretty well. My reef tank seems to be doing good, and I don’t have to worry about manually dosing anymore. It’s definitely made things a lot easier. Of course, I’m still keeping an eye on things, just to make sure everything is running smoothly. But overall, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. Automating the dosing has been a game-changer for me. I can’t say for sure if it’s perfect, but it’s doing the job for now.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my experience with setting up this single head dosing pump. If you’re thinking about automating your dosing, it’s definitely something to consider. Just do your research, pick a pump that suits your needs, and be prepared to do a little tinkering to get it working just right.
