Best uv led strip for sterilization: Find the Right One for Your Needs
Recently, I was thinking about adding some sterilization to my home, especially for items like my phone and keys, stuff we touch all the time. I did some digging and found that UV-C light is pretty good at killing germs. So, I decided to get a UV LED strip and see if I could make a little sterilization box myself.
First, I ordered a UV-C LED strip online. There are tons of options, but I picked one that seemed like a good balance of price and quality. It arrived in a few days, and it was just a simple strip with a USB connector.
Next, I needed a box. I found an old shoebox that was just the right size. I wanted to make sure the UV light would hit all sides of the items, so I lined the inside of the box with aluminum foil. I heard it helps reflect the UV light. I just used some regular kitchen foil and taped it to the inside of the box.

Then, I stuck the LED strip along the top edge of the box. The strip had an adhesive backing, so it was super easy. I made sure it was secure and wouldn’t fall off. I also cut a small hole in the side of the box for the USB cable to go through.
To power it, I just plugged the USB into a power bank. I figured this would be more convenient than plugging it into a wall outlet. Plus, I can move the box around more easily.
Testing It Out
Now for the fun part – testing! I placed my phone and keys inside the box, closed the lid, and turned on the LED strip. I left them in there for about 5-10 minutes, which is what I read was a good amount of time for sterilization.
Honestly, it’s hard to tell if it’s actually working without some kind of lab equipment, but it makes me feel better knowing I’m taking an extra step to keep things clean. I use it every day now when I come home. Just pop my stuff in the box for a few minutes, and done!
It was a pretty simple DIY project, and I’m happy with how it turned out. It’s not a perfect solution, but I think it’s a good enough for daily use. Plus, it was way cheaper than buying a pre-made UV sterilization box. If you’re thinking about doing something similar, I’d say go for it! It’s easy and gives you a little extra peace of mind.
