Big Blue 20 Filter Housing: What Is It and Why Do You Need It for Home?

So, the water at my place was starting to taste a bit off, and I figured it was high time to do something about it. After looking around for a while, I decided to grab a Big Blue 20 filter housing. Thought I’d share how the whole thing went down.

Getting Started

First things first, I got my hands on the filter housing. This thing is a beast – it’s called “Big Blue” for a reason. It’s sturdy and pretty hefty, which I guess is good for durability.

Figuring Out the Setup

Next up, I had to figure out how to set it up. This housing is meant for the whole house, which is great, but it also means dealing with the main water line. It’s got these 1-inch inlet and outlet ports, which is supposed to be good for keeping the water flowing fast.

Installation Time

Installing it was a bit of a chore, I’m not gonna lie. Had to shut off the main water line – always fun. Then it was time to do some pipe work. I connected it to the main line, making sure to use some Teflon tape on the threads to prevent leaks. This part took some elbow grease and a couple of trips to the hardware store for the right fittings.

Picking a Filter

Now, this housing doesn’t come with a filter, so I had to pick one. It takes those big 4.5 x 20-inch cartridges. I ended up getting a sediment filter for starters, since our water gets pretty murky after a big storm. Sliding that into the housing was a breeze, thank goodness.

Testing It Out

With everything hooked up, I slowly turned the water main back on, holding my breath for any leaks. Luckily, it all held up! I ran the water for a few minutes to flush out any air and debris.

The Result

The difference was pretty noticeable. The water cleared up, and that funky taste? Gone. It’s been a few weeks now, and it’s still running great. Plus, knowing that the whole house is getting filtered water is pretty neat.
