Big blue filter wrench: How to use it correctly to avoid damage?

Okay, so today I wanted to talk about this big blue filter wrench that I got my hands on recently. It’s not exactly rocket science, but hey, it made changing the water filter on my Big Blue housing a heck of a lot easier, so I figured I’d share my experience.

First off, I noticed that my water pressure was getting a bit weak. Figured it was time to swap out the old filter. So, I started by turning off the main water supply to the house – don’t want any surprise showers, you know?

Next, there’s this little red button on top of the Big Blue filter housing. I pressed that to release any leftover water pressure inside. It hissed a bit, nothing major.

Now comes the fun part. I grabbed my new big blue filter wrench – it’s this sturdy plastic thing, specifically designed to fit around the filter housing. I positioned the wrench around the base of the housing and turned it counterclockwise. It took a bit of elbow grease, but the housing started to loosen up.

  • Unscrewed the housing the rest of the way by hand.
  • Carefully pulled out the old, gunky filter. Man, was that thing dirty!
  • Gave the inside of the housing a quick wipe down, just to get rid of any lingering sediment.

Then, I unwrapped the new filter and popped it into the housing. There’s a little notch at the bottom that helps center it, so it was pretty straightforward.

After that, I simply screwed the housing back onto the top part, making sure it was nice and snug. I used the wrench again to tighten it up – clockwise this time, of course.

Finally, I turned the main water supply back on and checked for any leaks. All good! Water pressure’s back to normal, and I’ve got clean, filtered water again.

Honestly, having the right tool for the job makes all the difference.

This big blue filter wrench is definitely a keeper. It’s simple, but it saved me a lot of time and frustration. No more struggling with a slippery housing or resorting to random tools that don’t quite fit. If you’ve got a Big Blue filter, do yourself a favor and grab one of these wrenches. You won’t regret it!
