Big blue pleated filter maintenance: how to keep it working its best for you

Okay, here is my sharing about the “big blue pleated filter”:

So, I’ve been having this issue with my water, right? It tasted kinda funky, and I was getting a little freaked out about what might be lurking in there. I did some digging online, asked around to my friends, and finally decided to get one of those big blue water filter systems installed.

First, I ordered the whole setup online. It came with the big blue housing, a pleated filter cartridge, a wrench, and some mounting gear. I cleared out some space under my sink, which was kind of a mess, to be honest. And I made sure I had all the tools I’d need like a drill, screwdrivers, and some Teflon tape.

I shut off the main water valve in my house before I did anything. Didn’t want a surprise shower! Then, I measured out where the filter housing was going to go and marked the spots for the screws. I drilled the holes and mounted the housing, making sure it was nice and secure.

  • Put the filter cartridge inside the housing. It was a pretty snug fit, which I guess is a good thing.
  • Used the wrench to tighten up the housing. I didn’t want any leaks!
  • Connected the water lines to the housing. It had these push-to-connect fittings, which were way easier than I expected.

After everything was connected, I slowly turned the main water valve back on and checked for leaks. I held my breath for a second, but it was all good! No leaks. I let the water run for a few minutes to flush out the new filter, just like the instructions said. At first, it was a little cloudy, but it cleared up pretty fast.

Honestly, it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. I’m not exactly Mr. Handyman, but I managed to get it done. The whole thing took me a couple of hours, but I was being extra careful. Now, my water tastes way better! No more weird smells or tastes. It’s a relief, really.

I learned that these filters need to be changed out every few months, depending on how much water you use and what’s in your water. I put a reminder on my phone to check it every three months. Better safe than sorry, right? My friend told me it also depends on the pool size and debris. I wrote that down too.

So yeah, that’s my experience installing a big blue pleated filter. If you’re thinking about getting one, I’d say go for it. It’s definitely worth it for peace of mind and better-tasting water. Just take your time, read the instructions, and you’ll be fine. If I can do it, anyone can!
