Changing Big Blue Water Filter: Keep Your Water Clean and Fresh Now.

Okay, here’s my story about changing that big blue water filter.

So, I noticed the water was tasting a bit off lately. You know that chlorine taste? Yeah, not a fan. Plus, the missus kept saying how the water bills were going up. I mean, who likes throwing money down the drain, right? Especially with how prices for everything have been going up – 12.9% for water in NYC, can you believe it? I figured it was about time to swap out the old filter in our big blue whole house water system.

First thing’s first, I grabbed my tools. Nothing fancy, just the usual stuff. I shut off the main water supply – wouldn’t want a surprise shower in the basement. Then, I put a bucket under the filter housing to catch any drips. You learn these things the hard way, trust me.

Unscrewing the housing was a bit of a workout. That thing was on tight! But with a little elbow grease, I finally got it loose. I pulled out the old filter, and man, it was nasty. All discolored and gunked up. No wonder the water tasted funky. It was clearly time for a new one, and hopefully, it would do a better job of reducing any bad odors.

I gave the housing a quick rinse, just to get rid of any leftover sediment. Then, I popped in the new filter. It’s one of those carbon-based ones. I’ve heard good things about them, and it’s supposed to be way better than the old one I had. Supposedly this filter removes fluoride and chlorine, so that’s good. I screwed the housing back on, making sure it was snug but not too tight. I’m not trying to be the Hulk or anything.

  • Turned the water back on, nice and slow.
  • Checked for leaks.
  • No leaks, phew!

The Result

I let the water run for a few minutes, just to flush out any loose bits from the new filter. And guess what? The water tasted way better! Seriously, it was like night and day. Clean, crisp, no weird aftertaste. The wife was happy too, which is always a plus. Said it reminded her of that “Big Blue Water” stuff – you know, the non-profit kind? I don’t know about ending homelessness, but it sure did make a difference in our house.

I’m no expert, but changing that filter was easier than I thought. And honestly, with how important clean water is, it’s something we should all be doing. I read somewhere that by 2030, things could get even worse. So, doing our part, even in a small way, feels pretty good. Plus, saving a few bucks on the water bill doesn’t hurt either. It’s a win-win, really. Anyway, that’s my little story. Hope it helps someone out there!
