High pH RO Membrane Cleaner: Get Rid of Stubborn Fouling Fast!
Alright, so I’ve been having this issue with my reverse osmosis system. The water just wasn’t flowing like it used to, and I knew something was up. Turns out, the membrane was all gunked up. Time for a cleaning!
First thing I did was grab a high pH RO membrane cleaner. I’d read online that these are good for getting rid of organic stuff and biofilms, which sounded like exactly what I needed.
- I shut off the water supply to the system. Safety first, you know?
- Then, I removed the membrane housing. It’s not as complicated as it sounds, just a few twists and it was off.
- And there it was, the poor membrane, looking all sad and dirty. I carefully took it out.
Next, I mixed up the cleaning solution. I followed the instructions on the bottle, it is important. Mixed it with some warm water in a bucket. I gently placed the membrane in the solution and let it soak for a while. The instructions said a few hours, so I just left it there and went about my day.
After the soak, I took the membrane out and rinsed it thoroughly with clean water. Made sure to get all the cleaning solution off. I even used a soft brush to gently scrub away any stubborn bits that were still hanging on. Some people say they use CO2 method to clean the membrane, but I don’t know how. Maybe I will try next time.
Once it was all clean, I put the membrane back in its housing and put the housing back on the system. Turned the water supply back on, and crossed my fingers.
And guess what? It worked! The water was flowing freely again, just like new. I was pretty proud of myself, not gonna lie. It’s amazing what a little cleaning can do.
So, if you’re having trouble with your RO system, don’t panic. A good cleaning might be all it needs. Just remember to use the right cleaner and follow the instructions carefully.
Learned a lesson
I think I also learned that it’s important to choose the right membrane pore size to avoid this problem. I need to do more research on the feed water quality. Anyway, cleaning is not that hard and I can do it myself.
