how to add minerals back into reverse osmosis water

Okay, here’s my blog post about adding minerals back into reverse osmosis water, written in a casual, personal style:

So, I finally got around to tackling that weird, flat taste in my reverse osmosis water. You know, the kind that just feels… empty? Turns out, the RO system is too good at its job. It strips out everything, even the good minerals that give water its taste and some health benefits.

I started digging around, and man, there’s a lot of info out there. Some of it’s pretty complicated, but I just wanted a simple fix. I wasn’t about to start messing with complicated plumbing or anything.

My Experiment Begins

First, I grabbed a few things. My main goal was to keep it cheap and easy.

  • Mineral Drops: I found these online. They’re basically concentrated mineral solutions. Seemed like the easiest route.
  • Himalayan Salt: I heard a tiny pinch of this could help. Plus, I already had some in the kitchen.
  • A Big Water Jug: For mixing and storing the remineralized water.

I Started with the mineral drops,I added them with the directions on the bottle to a big jug of my RO water. Gave it a good shake, and… tasted it. Okay, better. Definitely not as flat. It actually tasted like, well, water!

Then, because the water tasted better, but was still missing something,I tried it with the salt. And I Learned I needed to be extra careful with the salt. I literally added a few grains – like, maybe three or four – to a whole liter of water. Shook it up, and took a *! Too salty. Definitely overdid it. It took a couple of tries to get the balance right, but a super tiny amount did seem to add a little something.

The Results (So Far)

Honestly, the mineral drops were the clear winner. Way easier to control, and the taste was consistently good. The salt was finicky, and I could easily see myself messing that up on a regular basis.

I’ve been drinking the remineralized water for a couple of weeks now, and I’m feeling pretty good about it. The water tastes better, I had fun doing a little home “science.”

I did buy the mineral drops.I’m sure there are other ways to do this, but for a simple, no-fuss solution, the drops are working great for me.
