My Remineralization Experiment

First, I did some digging online. Found tons of different methods, but a lot of them seemed overly complicated or involved buying expensive stuff. I wanted something simple and cheap.

I started with the easiest thing I could find: Himalayan pink salt. I already had some in the kitchen for cooking.

  • I took a pinch (like, a really small pinch) of the salt.
  • I dumped it into a large pitcher of my RO water.
  • I stirred it up really well until the salt totally disappeared.

I tasted it, and… huh, it was better! Definitely not as flat as before. But I wasn’t sure if this was actually doing anything significant, mineral-wise.

Next, I tried adding some mineral drops that I picked up at the health food store. These are specifically made for remineralizing water.

  • I carefully followed the instructions on the bottle – just a few drops per gallon.
  • I added to my water.

This seemed like a more precise way to do it. The taste was pretty good, similar to the salt, maybe a bit “cleaner” tasting.

But being the curious type, I wanted to see if I could get a more “DIY” solution going. I found some recipes online that used a mix of things like baking soda (for alkalinity), Epsom salts (for magnesium), and calcium carbonate. I decided I am not going to try, I just stick with the mineral drops.

What I’ve Stuck With

Honestly, after trying a few different things, I’ve mostly settled on using those mineral drops. They’re just so easy, and I feel like I’m getting a good balance of minerals. Plus, the taste is consistently good.

The salt thing is okay in a pinch (pun intended!), but I worry about getting the dosage right. And the whole DIY mineral mix… well, that’s just more effort than I want to put in right now. Maybe someday I’ll get more adventurous, but for now, the drops are working great!
