How to Replace a Reverse Osmosis RO Membrane? Step-by-Step Guide for Easy Installation.
Okay, so today I messed around with my reverse osmosis, or RO, membrane. I’ve had this system for a while now, and you know, the water just wasn’t tasting as crisp as it used to. Figured it was time to get my hands dirty and swap out that old membrane.
First off, I gathered all my stuff. I already had the new membrane ready to go. I turned off the water supply to the system – wouldn’t want a surprise shower. Then, I grabbed my wrench.
- Turn off the water.
- Grab a wrench.
- Get the new membrane.
The faucet on my sink, I opened that up to let out any leftover water pressure. With the pressure gone, it was time to get to the membrane housing. This thing is usually a bit longer than the other filter housings. I unscrewed it carefully.
Here’s a little tip: put a bucket under, just in case there’s still some water in there. Trust me, it saves you from mopping up later. Once I got the housing off, I pulled out that old, tired membrane. It looked pretty gnarly, to be honest.
Getting the New Membrane In
Next up, I took the new membrane and popped it into the housing. It’s important to make sure it goes in the right way – there’s usually an arrow or some kind of marking showing the direction. Then I screwed the housing back onto the system, nice and tight, but not too crazy, don’t want to break anything.
With everything back in place, I turned the water supply back on. I let the faucet run for a good few minutes to flush out the system. This gets rid of any air or loose stuff from the new membrane. After that, I filled up the tank and then emptied it out, did this a couple of times just to make sure everything was running smooth and clean.
And that’s pretty much it. The water’s tasting great now, way better than before. It’s not rocket science, but doing it yourself feels pretty good. Plus, I saved some bucks not calling a professional. If you’re thinking about doing this yourself, just take it step by step. It’s easier than you might think!
