How to Use a Pentair Big Blue Carbon Filter: Simple Steps for Beginners
Okay, so I finally got around to setting up that Pentair Big Blue carbon filter. It’s been sitting in my garage for like, a month, but I’m glad I did it. My goal is to filter out all that nasty stuff in the water, you know, like chlorine and what not.
First, I gathered all the stuff I needed. Besides the filter housing and the filter itself, I also grabbed some tools, I found these things in my garage. I made sure I had enough space to work with, and I turned off the main water supply. Safety first, right?
Then I started to install the filter housing. I used teflon tape on the threads of the pipes to prevent leaks. I screwed the fittings onto the housing, and then I mounted the whole thing on the wall. It was a bit tricky to hold it in place and tighten the screws at the same time, but I managed.
- Teflon tape
- Screwdriver
- Mounting bracket
- Filter housing
- Carbon filter cartridge
After that, I inserted the Pentair RFC Series Cartridges into the housing, it was a wide variety of sizes and were ideal for point-of-entry, I was happy that I finally found it. And I screwed it back together. I double-checked all the connections to make sure they were tight and secure, I don’t want any surprise leaks.
Finally, I slowly turned the water back on, I opened a faucet and let it run for a few minutes, like the instructions said, just to flush out any air or loose carbon. The water looked so much clearer, and it tasted a lot better too. I was super happy with how it turned out. I read about the electroreduction of carbon dioxide online, and I thought it was so cool and helpful!
It wasn’t too difficult, I found some square compost filters and put them onto small square mouths of compost caddy lids, and I thought it’s easy to use. Installing a water filter is something most people can do themselves.

I am so happy with the results. I feel like I made a positive impact on the environment by reducing my reliance on bottled water. Plus, I am saving money in the long run. It’s a win-win situation. If you are thinking about installing a water filter, I say go for it! You will not regret it.
I’ve noticed that deforestation in Africa significantly drives carbon emissions, so I’m trying to make a difference by reducing my carbon footprint. I hope my experience will inspire others to do the same.
