Installing a Big Blue Filter Bracket? Heres What You Need to Know!

Okay, so here’s the deal with the Big Blue filter bracket. I wanted to beef up the water filtration in my place, and this seemed like a solid way to do it. I got all the parts together, and let me tell you, it wasn’t as straightforward as I thought it would be.

First off, I picked out a good spot for the filter housing. It’s got these “IN” and “OUT” markings on the cap, which is helpful, but you still gotta think about where the water’s coming from and where it’s going. So, I spent a good chunk of time just figuring out the best placement.

Then came the fun part – mounting the housing to the bracket. They give you these self-tapping screws, which are supposed to make things easier, but let me tell you, getting them in straight and secure took some doing. I had to make sure the housing was lined up right for the flow direction, too. No one wants a backwards filter, right?

And here’s a tip I learned the hard way: You really should install a bypass valve. I skipped this step at first, thinking I was saving time, but trust me, it makes life so much easier when you need to service the thing. So, I went back and added one in. I also threw in a pressure-reducing valve because, you know, better safe than sorry with water pressure.

  • Choose the location
  • Mount the housing
  • Install a bypass valve
  • Fit a pressure-reducing valve

Once everything was in place, I connected the pipes. The inlet goes to the outside of the filter tube, and the outlet comes from the inside. It’s pretty logical when you see it, but I still double-checked everything a couple of times to make sure I didn’t mess it up.

All in all, it was a bit of a project. Definitely took longer than I expected. But now that it’s up and running, I’m feeling pretty good about the water quality in my house. It’s one of those things you don’t realize you need until you have it. Would I do it again? Maybe. But next time, I’ll definitely know what I’m getting myself into. And maybe wear some gloves, those screws are sharp.
