Is a Big Blue Pre Filter Right for You? Find Out

Okay, so, I’ve been dealing with some funky water at my place lately. It’s been looking a bit cloudy, and sometimes it even smells a little off. Not exactly what you want when you turn on the tap, right? So, I started looking into water filters, and that’s how I stumbled upon this whole “big blue pre-filter” thing. I’d never even heard of it before, but it sounded like it might be the answer to my water woes.

First, I went to a local store and talked to the staff. The staff said if I wanted to get rid of pollutants and chemicals, the big blue pre-filter will be a good choice. He also mentioned that the color of my water might change due to rust, so a pre-filter could help with that, too. I was intrigued. I spent some time digging around online. Turns out, there are tons of different brands out there – Aquasana, Culligan, iSpring, you name it. Each one seems to target different kinds of impurities, so I had to figure out what exactly was going on with my water.

I grabbed one of those home water testing kits to see what I was dealing with. After getting the results I found out my water had higher amounts of sediments, no wonder it’s been looking murky!

So, why did I choose the big blue pre-filter?

  • First of all it can help me solve the problem of sediments.
  • Secondly, it’s a whole-house filter, which means it filters all the water coming into my house, not just the water from one specific tap.

After doing my research, I went and ordered a big blue filter online, specifically the Pentair Big Blue 1 Inch Npt. It’s supposed to handle up to 100,000 gallons, which is great. Plus, it seemed pretty straightforward to install.

When the filter arrived, I shut off the main water supply to my house. Then, I found a good spot on the main water line to install it, making sure it was after the water meter. I had to cut a section of the pipe, which was a bit nerve-wracking, but I measured twice and cut once. I installed the filter housing, making sure the inlet and outlet were connected the right way. I used some thread seal tape to make sure there weren’t any leaks. I opened the package and put the filter cartridge in, then turned the water back on slowly to check for leaks.

And guess what?

It worked! After flushing the system for a few minutes, the water started running clear. It doesn’t smell weird anymore, and it just looks so much cleaner. I’m really happy I decided to install it. Now, I can finally drink my tap water without worrying about what’s in it.

I will keep checking the filter’s pressure gauge in the future, so I’ll know when it’s time to change the cartridge. But for now, I’m just enjoying my clean, fresh water!
