Kamoer Dosing Pump: Is It Worth the Money You Paid?
Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this Kamoer dosing pump thing for a while now, and I figured I’d share my experience. I needed to add some stuff to my fish tank regularly, and doing it by hand was such a pain. So I started looking into these dosing pump things, and the Kamoer brand kept popping up.
I ended up grabbing one of their models, the X5S I think it was? It’s got like five different channels, which is probably way more than I need right now, but hey, room to grow, right? Plus, it’s got WIFI, so you can control it from your phone, which is pretty sweet. Setting it up was a bit of a head-scratcher at first, I’m not gonna lie.
The instructions were kind of a joke, to be honest, but I found some stuff online that helped me get the gist of it. It’s basically just connecting the tubes to the right places and plugging it in. The tricky part was getting it connected to my WIFI. I had to download this app, and then go through this whole pairing process. Took me a few tries, but I finally got it.
Once I got it all hooked up, I started playing around with the app. It’s actually pretty cool. You can set up schedules for each channel, tell it how much to dose, and all that jazz. I started with just adding a little bit of calcium and alkalinity, since those are the things my corals need the most. I started to set the pumps to dose small amounts throughout the day, so I’m not just dumping a bunch in all at once.
My Setting Details
- Channel 1: Calcium – 5ml, 3 times a day
- Channel 2: Alkalinity – 4ml, 3 times a day
- Channel 3: Magnesium – 2ml, once a day
- Channel 4 & 5: Not used yet
After using it for a few weeks, I’ve gotta say, I’m pretty happy with it. My corals seem to be doing great, and it’s way easier than manually dosing everything. No more forgetting or messing up the amounts. It’s still pretty early, but so far so good!
The only real problem I had is that a couple of times the app seemed to lose connection with the pump. I had to close the app and reopen it to get it working again. And one time I had to re-pair the pump to my WIFI, which was kind of annoying. But overall it is useful. I set it and forget it!
If you’re thinking about getting a dosing pump, I’d say the Kamoer ones are worth checking out. They’re not the cheapest things in the world, but they seem to do the job. Just be prepared to spend a little time figuring out the setup and dealing with the occasional app glitch. But hey, that’s just my two cents. Good luck with your fish tank!
