Need a 20 Inch Big Blue Filter Cartridge? Find Yours Here!
Alright, so the other day I had to deal with our house water filter. It’s one of those big blue ones, you know the type? Anyway, it was time to swap out the cartridge, and let me tell you, it was a bit of a mess.
First, I had to shut off the main water supply. This is always a fun little adventure in our crawl space. After I stopped the water, I grabbed my filter wrench – it’s this big plastic thing specifically designed for these housings.
Then came the fun part – trying to unscrew the darn housing. It was on there tight! I struggled with it for a good five minutes, and finally it gave in. I got the old cartridge out, and man, was it gross. All kinds of dirt and who-knows-what-else trapped in there.
- Then I popped in the new 20-inch cartridge. It’s supposed to filter out sediment and other junk. This one was a 5 micron, I think it said, made from this spun polypropylene stuff.
- Screwed the housing back on – making sure not to over-tighten it.
- Then, I slowly turned the water back on, checking for leaks.
I got a little wet, cause water always seems to spray everywhere, I cleaned up the mess.
And that was it. Water pressure was back to normal, and hopefully, the water is a bit cleaner now. It’s not the most exciting job, but hey, gotta keep that water flowing, right?
It is a 20-inch big blue filter, I remembered the old one said “DGD-5005-20” on it, maybe it’s a model number? I just bought a similar one from Lowe’s, hope it works well. Some other guy online used a 3-stage filter, including a carbon filter for iron or something. Maybe I will try that next time.
Well, that’s my little adventure with the water filter. Nothing too crazy, but I figured I’d share my experience, just in case anyone else is dealing with one of these big blue monsters!
