Need a Big Blue Water Filter Whole House? (Heres How to Choose the Right One)

Alright, so, the other day, I finally got around to installing that big blue water filter for the whole house. Man, what a project! I’d been putting it off for a while, you know how it is, life gets in the way. But the water quality around here? Let’s just say it’s not exactly winning any awards.

First off, I had to figure out where the heck to even put this thing. The instructions were, uh, less than helpful. Pictures were blurry, the text was all over the place. Eventually, I found a spot near the main water line in the basement. Seemed like the logical choice, right?

Then came the fun part – actually hooking it up. I’m no plumber, but I’m pretty handy. I turned off the main water supply – that’s important, don’t forget that part! Then, I measured and cut the pipe, and let me tell you, cutting through that pipe was a workout in itself. I used some elbow grease and attached the filter housing to the water line. It was a bit tricky getting everything aligned, but I managed.

  • Turn off the main water supply.
  • Find the perfect spot.
  • Measure and cut the pipe.
  • Install the filter housing to the main water line.

Next, I popped in the filter cartridge. They say these big blue ones last a good while, like 10 years or something, which is great. I’d heard they need a flow rate of about 25gpm for big houses, and my house is not that big, so I think it’s perfect. I don’t want to be changing filters all the time. Oh, and I did a quick water test before starting this whole thing, just to see what I was dealing with. Turns out, there were some nasty stuff in there. Good thing I decided to get this filter!

Once everything was connected, I slowly turned the water back on, holding my breath, hoping I wouldn’t see any leaks. And guess what? No leaks! I felt like a plumbing pro, haha! I ran the water for a few minutes to flush out the system, just like the instructions said (which, again, were pretty terrible).

Honestly, the whole process took way longer than I expected. But, hey, I did it! And the water? It’s noticeably better. It doesn’t have that weird taste anymore, and it just feels cleaner. I saw these things being sold on these big online marketplaces for all sorts of prices. But, I got mine from one of those big retail stores, it was pretty affordable. And I saw some reviews saying it’s the ideal filter for homes of all sizes.

So, yeah, if you’re thinking about getting a whole house water filter, I’d say go for it. Just be prepared for a bit of a DIY adventure. It’s worth it in the end, though. Clean water is pretty important, you know?
