Need clean water? Big Blue Filter Housings: A basic guide to home water filtration.

Okay, so let me tell you about this little project I did the other day with these big blue filter housings. You know, those big blue things for filtering water?

First, I had to gather all my stuff. I made sure I had the housings themselves, some silicone grease, and a clean cloth. Oh, and of course, the new filter cartridges to go inside.

I started by turning off the main water supply to the house. Didn’t want any surprise showers! Then, I carefully unscrewed the old housings. These things can be pretty heavy when they’re full of water, so I took my time.

Once I had them off, I took out the old, gunky filters. Man, were they dirty! Then, I grabbed my cloth and some silicone grease and cleaned the grooves where the O-ring sits, I lubricated with silicone grease, it was a little bit messy. After that, I put the clean O-rings back in their grooves, making sure they were seated properly.

  • Clean the grooves.
  • Lubricate with silicone grease.
  • Put the O-rings back.

Next, I popped the new filter cartridges into the housings. They slid right in, no problem. I then carefully screwed the housings back onto the system head, just hand-tightening them for now.

Putting It All Back Together

With everything back in place, I slowly turned the water supply back on, I checked for any leaks. Thankfully, there were none! I let the water run for a few minutes to flush out any air and make sure the new filters were working properly.

And that’s it! My water is now crystal clear, and those big blue filter housings are doing their job. It wasn’t a super complicated project, but it definitely feels good to know I did it myself. Plus, I saved some money by not calling a plumber. If you’re thinking about doing this yourself, just remember to take your time, be careful, and always turn off the water first! You’ll do great.

From what I learned online, these Big Blue filter housings are the point-of-entry system, meaning they filter all the water coming into the house. Pretty neat, huh? And apparently, they’re great for homes with high water consumption. Well, that’s my little DIY adventure for the week. Hope you found it helpful or at least a little entertaining!
