Need Clean Water? See Why People Love the Pentek Big Blue 20 Filter!
Okay, so the other day, I swapped out the filter in my Pentek Big Blue 20” filter. It was quite the process, but I managed to get it done, and I thought I’d share the experience with you all.
First off, I noticed that my water pressure had dropped a bit, and the water started to taste a little off. That’s when I knew it was time to change the filter. I ordered a replacement, the Pentek EPM-20BB Big Blue Carbon Water Filter. It’s a 20-inch whole house modified epsilon carbon block cartridge with bonded powdered activated carbon, or PAC, filter. Sounds fancy, right? It’s basically designed to reduce sediment and improve the taste of the water by filtering out chlorine and other stuff.
Once the new filter arrived, I got everything ready. I turned off the main water supply to the house. Safety first! Then, I placed a bucket under the filter housing to catch any water that might spill out. Trust me, you don’t want that mess.
Next, I used the wrench that came with the housing to loosen it. It’s a big blue housing, so it’s pretty hefty. I had to put some muscle into it, but eventually, it came loose. I carefully removed the housing, and man, the old filter looked gross. It had done its job, for sure.
Install the new filter
I took out the old filter and gave the housing a good rinse. Then, I unwrapped the new filter and placed it inside, making sure it was snug and secure. The last step was to screw the housing back onto the system, making sure not to overtighten it.
Finally, I turned the water supply back on and checked for leaks. Everything looked good. It’s designed for 20 Big Blue filter housings. I slowly opened a faucet to let the water run through the new filter for a few minutes. This helps to get rid of any loose carbon particles and make sure the water runs clear.
- Turn off water supply
- Remove old filter
- Clean housing
- Install new filter
- Turn on water supply
- Check for leaks
After that, the water pressure was back to normal, and the water tasted great again. Success! I read that the Big Blue filter housing’s versatility meets all your large-capacity water filtration needs, including high-flow and heavy-sediment applications. This big housing allows for a greater filter capacity. It’s pretty cool to know that I have cleaner, better-tasting water throughout my home now. I’m not on well water and just go with the water softener.
It’s a bit of a chore, but changing the filter regularly is super important for maintaining good water quality. Plus, it’s way cheaper than constantly buying bottled water or dealing with plumbing issues down the line.
So, that’s my experience with changing the Pentek Big Blue 20” filter. Hope this was helpful, and feel free to share your own experiences or tips in the comments!
