Need help deciding? 50 gpd vs 100 gpd ro membrane: Heres a simple breakdown for you.

Hey folks, let’s talk about something I messed with recently – those RO membranes, the 50 gpd and 100 gpd ones. I got this whole reverse osmosis thing set up at home, you know, for cleaner water and all that stuff.

So, I started with the 50 gpd membrane, ’cause that’s what everyone says is good for homes. I hooked it up, pretty easy install, nothing too crazy. The water flowed, and I was getting decent water, not super fast, but it was working. I was checking the pressure and all that, seemed fine.

Then, I got curious about the 100 gpd one. I heard it gives you more water faster. Figured, why not? I swapped out the 50 for the 100. It fit right in, no problem, since they use the same housing, which is nice.

Right away, I noticed the water was coming out way quicker. Like, double the speed. I was filling up my jug in half the time, which was pretty sweet. But then I started thinking, is this faster flow messing with how well the water’s getting filtered? I read some stuff online that got me wondering.

  • Higher gpd means faster water flow.
  • Faster flow might mean less filtering.
  • Same housing for both, so easy to swap.

I did some more digging, and it turns out, yeah, the faster the water goes through, the less time it has to get all the junk out. It’s like, you can’t rush a good thing, right? So, the 100 gpd might not be getting the water as clean as the 50 gpd.

Now, I’m no scientist, but I did some basic tests, comparing the water from both membranes. Honestly, I couldn’t tell a huge difference in taste or anything. But knowing what I know now, I’m thinking the 50 gpd might be the better choice for me.

I even found out that if your water pressure ain’t great to begin with, the 100 gpd might not even work that well. It needs a good push to get that faster flow. Lucky for me, my water pressure’s decent, but it’s something to keep in mind.

My Two Cents

So, after all this messing around, here’s what I figured out. If you want more water faster, and you’re not super picky about every little thing in your water, the 100 gpd is fine. But, if you want to make sure you’re getting the best possible filtration, stick with the 50 gpd. It’s slower, yeah, but probably does a better job.

And hey, if you’re thinking about this stuff, remember to check your water pressure. It makes a difference. Plus, don’t just take my word for it. Do your own digging, see what works best for you. Water you waiting for? Go and enjoy the clean water from now!
