Need to Install Your Big Blue Water Filter? Follow This Guide
Okay, here’s my experience about installing a big blue water filter:
So I finally got around to installing that big blue water filter I bought a while back. It was sitting in my garage, staring at me every time I pulled in. Honestly, I was a bit intimidated, but it turned out to be way easier than I thought.
First, I turned off the main water supply to the house. Don’t wanna get soaked, right? Then I picked a spot on the main water line after the pressure tank to install the filter. Made sure I had enough room to work and to change the filter later on.
Next, I grabbed my pipe cutter and cut the main line where the filter was going to go. This was the point of no return! I measured twice and cut once, just like my grandpa used to say. Then I used some sandpaper to smooth out the edges of the cut pipes. Gotta make sure there are no leaks!
Then I used some teflon tape and wrapped it around the threads of the filter housing and the fittings. This is super important to prevent leaks. I then assembled the filter housing according to the instructions. They were actually pretty clear, which was a relief.
I then connected the filter housing to the main water line using the fittings. Tightened everything up with a wrench, making sure not to over-tighten, which can crack the plastic.
With the filter in place, I slowly turned the main water supply back on. Checked for leaks like a hawk. At first, there was a little drip, so I tightened the fitting a bit more, and that did the trick. No more leaks!
Finally, I opened a faucet inside the house and let the water run for a few minutes to flush out any air or sediment. The water sputtered a bit at first, but then it ran clear and clean.
Result
- Water pressure: Seems normal.
- Water taste: Definitely better!
- Overall: I’m pretty proud of myself for tackling this project. Saved some money by doing it myself, and now I have better-tasting water. Win-win!
If you’re thinking about installing one of these filters, go for it! It’s not as hard as it looks, and it’s totally worth it.
