Pentek 20 Big Blue Water Filter: Is It Worth the Hype? (Simple Guide for Buyers)

Okay, so, I recently decided it was time to upgrade my home water filtration system. You know, the water around here has been tasting a bit off lately, and I figured it was time to do something about it. After poking around online and asking some friends, I landed on the Pentek 20 Big Blue Water Filter. Sounded pretty heavy-duty, and honestly, I liked the “Big Blue” part.

First off, I went and got myself the filter housing. This thing is massive! It’s called “Big Blue” for a reason, I guess. It’s made of this tough polypropylene material, and it felt really solid. I also noticed it had a drain valve, which I figured would come in handy later.

Then came the filter cartridge. I chose a Pentek CFB-Plus20BB. It’s a carbon block filter, and from what I read, it’s supposed to be good at getting rid of bad tastes and odors. Plus, it’s designed to fit perfectly in the Big Blue housing, so that was a no-brainer. This one is meant to be replaced about every 3 months for my family size. That seems pretty standard.

Installing it was a bit of a project, not gonna lie. I had to shut off the main water line, which is always a bit nerve-wracking. Then, I had to find a good spot to mount the housing. Luckily, my basement had a perfect little nook for it. I connected the housing to the water line, making sure everything was nice and tight. No leaks, thank goodness.
