Pool Filter Cartridge Cleaner: How to Use It (Simple Steps for a Sparkling Clean Pool)
Okay, so, I gotta share this thing I did with my pool filter. You know, the cartridge kind. It was getting all gunky and the water pressure was just not what it used to be. Time for a good clean, I figured.
First, I turned off the pump. No way I’m messing with this thing while it’s running. Safety first, right? Then, I looked for that air relief valve thingy to let out all the pressure built up inside. Usually, it’s on top of the filter tank. I twisted it open and, whoosh, you could hear the air escaping. Kinda satisfying, not gonna lie.
Next, I had to get the filter cartridge out. This part can be a bit of a pain, depending on your setup. Mine has this big clamp that I had to loosen. Once that was off, I carefully lifted the top of the filter housing and pulled out the cartridge. It was heavier than I expected, and pretty gross, covered in all sorts of gunk.
Now, before I started cleaning, I gave the cartridge a good once-over. Checked for any tears or cracks, you know, to make sure it was still in good shape. It looked okay, just really dirty, so I proceeded to the cleaning part.
I grabbed my garden hose and, using the spray nozzle, I started rinsing off the cartridge. I made sure to get in between all those pleats, blasting away all the leaves, dirt, and whatever else was trapped in there. It took a while, but it was kinda therapeutic, watching all that grime wash away.
- Turn off the pump.
- Release the air pressure.
- Remove the filter cartridge.
- Inspect for damage.
- Rinse with a garden hose.
Some folks use special cleaning solutions, but I just stuck with the hose this time. After I was satisfied with the rinsing, I put the cartridge back in the filter housing, tightened everything back up, and turned the pump back on.
And that’s it. Honestly, the whole thing is pretty straightforward. Just remember to turn off the water, then depressurize, and use the valve. You can see the difference right away. My pool water looks clearer, and the pressure is back to normal. Plus, it’s a good feeling, you know, taking care of things yourself. It can make the water keep crystal clear.
I’d say, don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty and give this a try. It’s way easier than you might think, and your pool will thank you for it!
So now you know how to clean the pool filter cartridge! This is the way how I do it.
