What is High Rejection RO Membrane? The Best Choice for Clean Water!

Alright, let’s talk about this high rejection RO membrane thing. So, I got into this whole mess because my water at home? It tasted like, I don’t know, a swimming pool mixed with dirt. Not good.

I started digging around, you know, checking what could be done. Turns out, the whole reverse osmosis (RO) system was the way to go. But then, which one? That’s where it got tricky.

First off, I went to the store, started looking at all these RO membranes. They’ve got all these numbers like GPD, rejection rate, and whatnot. GPD, gallons per day, seemed simple enough – how much water it can filter in a day. But then I thought, is higher GPD better? Turns out, not really. Sure, it filters more water, but it also means I would probably spend more money. And I heard from someone that it could be kind of a headache sometimes. No thanks.

Then there’s this “rejection rate” thing. Apparently, it’s about how much of the bad stuff the membrane can block. If the rejection rate is below, like, 85% or 80% or somewhere around there, it means it’s time to toss that membrane out and get a new one. Okay, makes sense.

So, I’m comparing these membranes, and I realize something else – the water pressure from the tap, they call it feed water pressure. This thing is key. Low pressure means the whole RO thing works slower, and not as well. So I needed a membrane that could handle my home’s water pressure, which, thankfully, wasn’t too bad.

  • Started checking out different systems.
  • Compared prices, features, all that jazz.
  • Almost went for the fancy, high GPD one, but then thought, nah, too much.

I even looked into this other thing called ultrafiltration (UF). It’s similar, uses a membrane and all, but it’s more about getting rid of bigger stuff, like bacteria. Seemed interesting, but for my nasty-tasting water, RO was the way to go.

Making the Choice

Finally, after what felt like forever, I picked a membrane. Not too fancy, not too basic. Decent rejection rate, good with my water pressure. Installed the whole thing, which was another story, but let’s not get into that.

And guess what? The water? Tastes amazing now! Like, actually clean. No more weird chemical taste. It was a bit of a hassle, sure, but totally worth it. I can drink the tap water again and my coffee even tastes better! So, yeah, that’s my adventure with the high rejection RO membrane. It’s a good one.
