What You Need to Know Before You Buy a Hydranautics RO Membrane

OK, so I’ve been messing around with this Hydranautics RO membrane thing for a while now, and let me tell you, it’s been quite a journey. It is said that Hydranautics’ RO membrane has different flux and rejection characteristics. I thought, “Alright, let’s see what this baby can do.”

First off, I had to pick the right type of membrane. And I realized that selecting the right type of membrane products is the first step towards achieving energy. There are so many options out there, it’s kind of overwhelming, you know? I spent days just reading up on the different types, their specs, pros, cons, you name it.

After I finally made my choice, it was time to get down to business. I got my hands on the membrane and started the installation process.

  • I took apart the end cover of the old membrane housing. It sounds simple enough, but those things can be stubborn!
  • Then came the fun part – actually putting the new membrane in. I made sure to follow the instructions to a T because, let’s face it, I didn’t want to mess this up.

Once everything was in place, I had to consider the feed water pressure. This thing is crucial. The feed water pressure determines the flow rate and efficiency of the RO process. If your pressure’s too low, you’re gonna have a bad time. Low pressure means low flow rates and poor efficiency. Thankfully, I had already picked a membrane that could handle the pressure in my system.

Then it was time to test it out. I used electrical conductivity to check the water quality. I learned that pure water doesn’t conduct electricity well. So, the lower the conductivity, the purer the water. Pretty neat, huh?

Now, about storage, I learned that Hydranautics usually says you can only store these membranes unused for about 90 days. But I read some folks saying they’ve stored them longer without any problems. Still, I didn’t want to risk it, so I used mine right away.

The moment of truth! I turned on the system and waited. And you know what? It worked like a charm! The water quality was great, and the flow rate was just what I needed. I was so stoked!

All in all, it was a pretty cool experience. I learned a lot about RO membranes and water treatment in general. There is even a learning center goes deeper into the “how to” of water treatment and membrane technology. I felt like a total pro by the end of it. So yeah, if you’re thinking about getting into this stuff, I’d say go for it. Just be prepared to do your homework and get your hands dirty!
