Where to buy a big blue filter cartridge? Here are some reliable stores for you.

Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this whole house water filter thing, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey. I decided to go with the Big Blue filter cartridge, ’cause, you know, it’s “big” and “blue,” sounds impressive, right?

First off, I grabbed this Pentair Big Blue housing. It’s this big, sturdy thing that’s supposed to handle a lot of water, which is perfect ’cause we use a ton of water in our house. Installed the housing where the main water line comes into the house. It wasn’t too tricky, just had to cut some pipes and make sure everything was tightened up real good to avoid leaks.

Then came the actual filter cartridge. I did some digging and found this Pentek DGD-5005-20. It’s one of those 20-inch sediment filters. It said on the box that this was meant for getting rid of all the nasty stuff in the water, like dirt and rust. Slid that bad boy into the housing. It fit like a glove, which was a relief.

  • Turned the water back on, no leaks! Always a good sign.
  • Ran the water for a few minutes to flush out any loose stuff from the new filter.

After a week, I noticed the water was looking a lot clearer. Checked the filter, and it was already starting to look a bit dirty, which means it’s actually working and catching all that gunk. I also got this other filter, the Pentek NCP-20BB. It’s a carbon filter and it’s supposed to get rid of bad tastes and smells. Popped that into another housing I set up next to the first one.

Now, I know these Big Blue housings are supposed to last a long time, like 10 years. But I’m the kind of guy who likes to stay on top of things, so I’ll probably check it every few months just to make sure everything’s running smoothly. If it looks really nasty, I might just swap it out earlier than the recommended time. And, I mean, in 10 years, who knows, I might just replace the whole housing for good measure.

Conclusion

So far, so good. The water’s cleaner, tastes better, and I feel a bit better knowing we’re not showering in a bunch of sediment. If you’re thinking about filtering your whole house’s water, this setup seems to do the trick. Just make sure you get the right size and type of filter for what you need, and don’t be afraid to get your hands a little dirty setting it all up!
