Buy Big Blue 20 Water Filter Cartridge? Read This First!

Alright, so the other day I decided it was finally time to deal with our water filter situation at home. We’ve been using this old system for a while, and the water was starting to taste kinda funky. Plus, I was a bit worried about what might actually be in our tap water, you know? So, I rolled up my sleeves and got to work.

After some looking around online, I ended up going with a “Big Blue” 20-inch filter cartridge. From what I could gather, these things are pretty heavy-duty and can handle a lot of water, which is perfect for us because we go through a decent amount each day. When the package arrived, I was surprised at how big this filter actually was! It’s like the size of a small fire extinguisher. Anyway, I cleared out the area under the sink where our old filter was housed. Let me tell you, it was a bit of a tight squeeze getting in there, but I managed.

• First, I turned off the main water supply. That’s super important, unless you want a surprise shower under your sink.
• Then, I got out my trusty wrench and started unscrewing the old filter housing. This took a little bit of elbow grease, but it eventually came loose.
• I carefully removed the old filter cartridge, which looked pretty gross, to be honest. It was all brown and grimy, definitely time for a replacement.

Installing the new Big Blue filter was surprisingly straightforward. I simply placed it into the housing and screwed it back on. I made sure everything was tightened up nicely to prevent any leaks. The filter housing I bought did come with a wrench, so that was helpful.

Once everything was back in place, I slowly turned the water supply back on. I held my breath for a second, hoping I didn’t mess anything up, but thankfully there were no leaks! The water started flowing through the new filter, and I let it run for a few minutes just to flush everything out.

The Result

I have to say, I’m pretty impressed with this Big Blue filter. The water tastes noticeably cleaner and fresher now, with no weird smells or aftertaste. It’s like a night and day difference. I also feel a lot better knowing that we’re filtering out a bunch of gunk from our water. Apparently, this thing can filter up to 20,000 gallons, so it should last us a good while. I’ll probably check the water pressure in about six months to see if it needs changing again. That’s what most people recommend, it seems.

Overall, I’m really happy I made this upgrade. It was a relatively easy DIY project, and the improvement in our water quality is totally worth it.
